Question:

Has anyone taken a break with their therapist?

If so for how long? I think I have plateaued and I was wandering is it possible that a break could help with that?

  1. I took a break from mine then just 1 month later... I ended up in the Priory for 3 & half months.

    I think I benefitted more from the treatment in there than I did my previous therpaist.

    I just wasn't in the right frame of mind to sort myself out when I was seeing her.


  2. If you feel like you need a break then you should take one... Sometimes I dread going in because I don't feel like talking but after I feel great.  It's all up to you :)

  3. I've had to do that - I was finding that the same thing was being discussed over and over again. Therapy can be hard work, and after a while I found myself getting angry with him. I took a vacation for a couple of months and found myself better able to figure out if there was any progress. Sometimes you have to take a step back...

  4. You just know when you are at a point where you need to stop.  That's what happened to me a few different times with different therapists.  

  5. Yeah, I've done that. As a matter of fact, I took a permanent break. All therapy ever did was make me more angry.
