Is it worth it? Does it stop at good sights?

  1. To really appreciate Rome, you need to get out in the streets! The people are so social you'd miss a lot on a bus zooming by.

  2. i did take one of the bus tours (they had double decker bus and tram options). it was NOT a good idea. maybe it was just the tour company (it was the "hop-on, hop-off" tour...look it up in expedia) but it was so useless. they would drop us off around the corner from all the sites and we'd still have to find it on foot. they'd be like "trevi fountain is down that way over to the left" and at the vatican, they dropped us off right at the top of the road, meanwhile other buses would go in. and then we'd have to wait a while for another bus to come by. i've taken similar kinds of tours in london and paris which were AMAZING and convenient and frequent that took us right to the doorstep of all the sights, but the one i went on in rome did not.
