I am currently on a treatment of 500mg doses of metronidazone (Flagyl) twice a day. That's 14 pills....so far i've taken...6 (i missed a dose today, but took it as soon as i remembered). Saturday is my cousin's 21st birthday party. I want to join in with the celebration badly. I don't want to get drunk, only 1 or 2 drinks...nothing too strong either. I KNOW the side effects of the drug....I know what it can do...but, I was wondering if anyone actually did this before. I want to skip a day, 24 hours or more, drink one or two drinks, and then resume the following day with the rest of my regiment. If you have never had experience with this, don't reply. I really want to hear from those who have been there and done that, and what was the outcome. I know it's different for everyone...but i would like to know what happened to the majority, and what's your advice. thanks!

  1. Reminds me of the cartoon scene which starts out as a closeup showing two youngsters talking. One has a lighter in his hand and is obviously going to try smoking something. His friend is saying "Dude, don't doo it! seriously that's bad!" but the first guy replies "Oh come on. Don't knock it until you've tried it." Then the scene zooms back and we can see what the kid is about to smoke -- a stick of dynamite.

Some things are just stupid and I don't need to try them to know that they should just be avoided.

(Now some people have had dynamite blow up in their hands and lived, but most died, but still, I'd say don't try it. Just because by some amazingness some have exscaped death is no reason to temp fate.)

Seriously, drink some rootbeer or something. After all, it's your cousin that's important -- not the beer (or wine or liqure or whatever.)

It would be very sad if something happened bad as a result of your drinking during your treatment.

But you could always ask your doctor -- if he says "Fine," then it doesn't matter what anyone on yahoo answers says. If doctors says "No," again, it really doesn't matter what we say here :-)
