Has anyone taken the "night" private tour of the Vatican?

Hi all,

Has anyone taken the private tour given out at the Vatican (for 2-3 hours after the Vatican is closed)? Is it worth the few hundred dollars it costs? Keep in mind that I'm not religous...but still feel the history behind the Vatican (how many decisions there shaped the course of history) and the art involved are humbling.

Also...any suggestions on "great deals / locations" for places to stay / eat around Florence / Rome / Sorrento (also cinque terra) will gladly be reviewed :) Dates would range between October 13-November 2nd.

  1. If you appreciate art then the after hours tour would be worth it. People who have taken the tour say it is worth every penny. Read for yourself:

It's important to note that if you visit during regular hours the museum will be very crowded. Many people they will have a moment of quiet reflection in the Sistine Chapel only to be disappointed that it is filled wall-to-wall with other tourists.

Tour after hours or during the day if it is more within your budget - just don't miss the Vatican Museum!

  2. Its worth it.

  3. the first guy is right. there are robbers everywhere. in paris there are signs that say watch for robbers

  4. No...but all I can say is watch your wallet! My mother went when she was in HS (in the early 80s) and she was robbed in front of the Vatican (broad daylight).  I can just imagine how much worse it is now.

  5. Take the "flashlight" tour of the Winchester Mystery House instead.

Every Full Moon, Friday the 13th, and Halloween.

  6. robbers...aka gypsy.. that's all over Europe, open markets, well tourist spots really, and man those quick little hands, you might not know it until you reach for your wallet. little kids bumping into you while the other takes from you. so fast , that you will never see your stuff again. you must go to capri... off of sorrento....

  7. well if you are a history buff go for it i have not been there myself if you are not interested in history take the money buy a hooker or what ever you like its your money so make up your mind what to do with it
