Has anyone taken the train to Canada?

What are border crossings like by train are they just like road border cheeckpoints. And do you now need a passport

  1. To the best of my knowledge, the only passenger rail service between the U.S. and Canada is Amtrak's "Maple Leaf" operating between New York City and Toronto. The customs and immigration inspection is similar to that done if crossing by car, and a passport is strongly recommended, but not currently required. Proof of citizenship, and a government issued photo I D is .

  2. Citizens of the United States do not need a passport or visa to enter Canada, unless they are arriving in Canada from somewhere other than the USA.  They do need to have on them proof of citizenship plus photo identification
