Has anyone thinking or adopted from Colombia?

Hi, I was wandering if anyone here has considered or even adopted a child or baby from Colombia? I've heard that the policies are pretty tight over there as it's such a dangerous place with all the crime. I used to watch this baby programme on Discovery Mom's or something? where this couple tried so hard to finally adopt a baby from there having to go through years of waiting then travelling there a few times (looked terrifying!) But I suppose this is one of the reasons why I've chosen Columbia, to give them a better chance at life in a safer country. Would love to hear, Thanks

  1. no..if i was going to adopt i'd adopt from the US...plenty of kids here who need a better chance in life b/c of dangerous things too

  2. I wish more people would adopt locally as there are so many infants and children in need of a living home right here in our backyard. Just because one might live in America does not mean they cannot experience what those in under developed countries do.

  3. I don't know why people give the "American children need homes too" argument. Are children born in the US more valuable than those born elsewhere? Does the place a child is born dictate what they deserve in life? A child doesn't get to choose where she's born, and every single one of them deserves a better life. Children all over the world need good homes, and its up to the adoptive parent to decide where they want to adopt from.

To those opposing adopting outside of the US: What are you doing for unwanted and abused American children?

Add to that that sometimes, American adoption agencies can be more strict and costly than adopting from a foreign country. This isn't always the case, but it happens. (The regulations are in place for a good reason though.)

For the question, here's a link to a website with information on adopting children in Colombia and other countries. Best of luck!

  4. No, I'm not interested in adopting an Columbian child. Yes, it is very hard to adopt there (they put you through the loops) but boy oh boy those kids  are so Beautiful... Colombians are beautiful people .

BTW. Dont let these people tell you that you shouldnt adopt from a foreign country . They can adopt from America and You can adopt from Columbia. Only you can decide whats best for you, the child & your family so if you have something that you feel that you can give to a Colombian child, then do your thing girl!

There was once a white woman on oprah who was watching a feed the children special and saw a black boy eating out of a dumpster. She said at that moment she knew that that was her son and she had to find him (she never even wanted to become a AP). After months of searching she finally found him and raised him. The boy grew up to be a doctor & married with his own family.  The story made me cry.

Sometimes these children just call you... Maybe like her, you have a gut feeling telling you that your child is over there.

  5. i am adopted from colombia and proud of it

go for it don't let any one stop you.

i am from Fana if you google it it's the foundation for adopted and abandoned children of america.  and the women there are wonderful i was eight months when i was adopted and have been back to see it it's amazing i was very sick when i arrived here but all that has pasted because some one like you took a chance and gave me the greatest gift of all LIFE and i wouldn't be sitting here telling you this if it wasn't for the women at fana and the family who adopted me. the children are sick mal nurrished .

good luck and remember you can only do so much after that you have to take a few leaps of faith

  6. Well if you look at the current political changes going on in Columbia you would see that things are changing and in some parts of the US its more dangerous.

Adopt the kids living on the streets don't prey on women that just need a little assistance to raise their babies.

I suggest spending some time in Columbia before judging the country based on media b/s.
