Has anyone took a cruise on NCL?

If you have taken a cruise on the NCL, can anyone tell me what specific things to bring? I will be going to Samana, Tortolla, and San Juan. Do you need fancy clothes to get into the bars on the cruise or can you go in wearing a t-shirt and shorts? Do you need dressy clothes at all? What are some other things that I should keep in mind? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You can wear anything you want and the food is freestyle which makes it fun....keep in mind to watch you're things...I left Istanbul at 2am in the morning and forgot my carry on with all my gifts for children and grandchildren in it....they were stolen by someone on the crew.....so be very careful

I have been on many NCL's cruises. They have Freestlye Cruising which means getting dressed up is your choice. As for the bars no. The sports bar on deck 7 is just that. They also have a small bar on deck 7 before you get to the sports bar. There is a bar on deck 11 behind the buffet which is very casual. As for what to keep in mind just use common sense. Wear what you would wear around your town or going to the store unless you cchoose to dress up. Otherwise just relax & ENJOY.

The "Freestyle Cruising" policy means that you are never required to be dressed up on the ship if you don't want to. (I wasn't a huge fan of this, it seemed odd to be in a gorgeous formal dining room and see people in shorts and a tee-shirt, but it's totally allowed and many people go casual).  

Do beware of the "freestyle" name though, most of the specialty restaurants need reservations and you do have to plan ahead.

I haven't been to Samana, but Tortolla and San Juan are beautiful.  If you're interested in snorkeling and you can fit it in your suitcase bring your own mask/snorkel/fins. You can find really cheap ones just at Walmart, but to rent them on the islands is way overpriced.
