We are having crazy trouble with fire ants, but we want to start a garden in the spring and I'd rather not poison the yard...I found this product and it's full of nematodes...gives me the creeps, but does anyone know if it works?

  1. Amdro works better than anything and believe me, I have tried just about everything. Amdro is a bait that is only poisonous to Fire Ants. It won't harm your garden.

  2. Use Grits. They're cheaper.

Just sprinkle Dry Grits around the area. Ants will carry them back to the nest, once they eat them, drink water or they mix with saliva, they sell and die.

I've done this and it works.  Some say corn meal will do the same thing but I have not tried that.

You can get rid of the whole nest this way.

  3. I don't think Amdro is labeled for vegetable garden if that is what the garden will be...Logic is another product that is just a growth regulator, applying it now and again in the Spring will help.  Forget grits or corn meal as a remedy for fire ants...fire ants do not have the ability to eat solid foods, so it would be a bit hard for them to eat drink and explode. If a giant came around and dumped a bunch of c**p on my home I would probably move too and the giant would probably think  wow my c**p actually killed that tiny critter and then post it on his giant version of different help sites   :)
