I'm thinking about trying the magic jack, for free local and long distance phone service how does it work, has anyone tried it? what kind of computer do I need, can I truly fire my telephone service? when I called a recored message offered to send me (the magic jack) I cant seem to get anyone on the phone. Has anyone had trouble talking to an actual person once accepting the magic jack. If you have problems with the product will an actual person help you?

  1. yes!! I have two now and love it!!

just plug the MJ into your USB  2.0 port and everything goes automatic.....

I use the MagicJack since last year and love it!

I just started my second year with the MJ and love it, but remember that you will need a very good ISP high-speed Internet

    Vonage is much to expensive.

I use a Panasonic DECT 6.0 phone with multiple extension!

the only con is the computer gotta be on "ON"...but that's no biggie for me....one of my laptop is always on anyways! just take the monitor off so it will not use much energy...

the MagicJack came out about last year in May/07

yes....its a good deal....if that's what you want....you can call anyone for free in the US and Canada for free....land line or cellphone!! I have one for over 1 year now and love it!

you just put the MagicJack into your USB port and use any old analog phone and make calls....!

the MJ software install when you put the MJ n your USB post....with the software and also a softfone if you wanna use it !

I use it since last year, and so far I love it! but you gotta know what you really want out of this gizmo! I use it strictly for travel and as a 2nd line in my house!

Don't expect too much from MagicJack....its not a phone service per se.....!

I had no problems installing it...matter-of-fact ....the install was faster and much more easier then my other VoIP service!

Land Phones its really easy to use....like a VoIP service (Internet phone)

but you computer got to be on at all times for it to work!!

You gotta download their software....but its very easy and you don't need to do nothing else...! I have it since last year...! so far I love it...I take it on vacation to other countries so I can call back for free with an US area code! Make sure you use another user account and not the admin account...also if you have trouble...check your device manager....don't do your iPot stuff at the same time...!

all you get is the Magic Jack...the rest you learn on your on, or at the MJ forum!

You will be up and running within 5 minutes....you can ask here questions when you get it going!! There are alot of little things you have to know........for it to work just right!!

the most important thing with the MJ...it all depends on your ISP provider....! I use other VoIP on my computer, but the MJ was the easiest to install...

  2. I have one and have no problems. I got it from the official magic jack website. I heard that help is not good but my brother has had his longer then me and we both have had no problems. You need a fast internet connection. Even IF it would only work for 2 months you would save money but it really does work. This is the only house phone  I have. They say that 911 does not work in all locations but it does in mine. I had to get an area code for a different area though as mine was not on the list yet. If you have family in another area that has an accepted area code that would be one to choose so they could call you for free. You can always call them for free anyway if the live in the USA. You can even take it overseas with you and hook it into a computer and call your family in the states.

  3. I've tried it and think it's great.  My wife and I were looking to lower our monthly phone bills and was able to save $70/month by switching to MagicJack!

We use our MagicJack on a dual core 2.7Ghz w/2.5 gigs of memory.  Others have used PIII 1Ghz with less than a 1gb of memory without any issues.

With the high demands of this product, I'm sure the company will have problems keeping up with all the phone calls.  For the price, I wouldn't expect great customer support.

The sound quality is great.  We can't tell the difference between the VOiP and our old regular line.  Everyone on the other end also tells us the quality is good.

Luckily, we haven't had any problems yet so theres no need to call customer service.
