Today I went into Boots the chemists. I spoke to a pharmacist regarding the ovulation kits that where on sale, you know clear blue, Tommy's, Boots own brand. After sitting down with the pharmacist in a consultation room for 5 minutes I came out with the knowledge of how to save money and try to predict ovulation. She told me to buy a digital thermometer and to take my temperature every morning before I get out of bed and to make a graph of my temperature. On the day of ovulation my temperature should rise by 0.1oc and that I should see a pattern of my body temperature rising. I'm starting this tomorrow and I'm quiet excited. I already have two children age 9 & 7 and I am trying as of next month to become pregnant with my fiance. (who also has two children)

Have you used this method or do you know of anybody using this method? Was it successful or not?

I appreciate all answers.

Thanks for your answers and good luck to all those trying to conceive.

  1. Taking Charge of your Fertility is a GREAT book. Also try visiting NFPandmore.com

  2. Not recently but. about 60 years ago I friend did it that way and was successful....and that method was also used to NOT conceive..it worked that way, too..

  3. www.fertilityfriend.com should be your first stop for learning all about charting. There is a wealth of information on there, including a daily e-mail that you can sign up to for a few weeks that takes you gradually through all the complexities.

Loads of people out there love charting. Personally, it's not for me, mainly because I get up at different times every day and often have to get up in the night/ early morning for my son and that means that temp readings are not accurate.

I also think it's just stressful to have a reminder first thing every morning that you aren't pregnant!

The other disadvantage is that you only get the temp shift AFTER you've ovulated, whereas ovulation tests tell you before, so you know when to do the baby dance! So with charting, it takes a few months before you know how your cycle works.

I've only used ovulation tests for one cycle and I got pregnant, so I'm sticking with them!

  4. This is a good method and it will predict the day that you start ovulation.  But i would suggest you try the ovulation kit, you can get them at a fracture of the price of Ebay.  When a woman is about to ovulate, her body releases a large amount of a hormone called LH (Luteinising Hormone). LH is always present in your urine but the levels increase (surge) in the middle of your cycle, causing you to release an egg from the ovary. This process is called ovulation. If the LH surge is present, ovulation is likely to occur in the next 24 to 36 hours. This is the best time to try and conceive 24hour to 36 hours before ovulation happens, this is your most fertile time as sperm can live 5-7 days but when you ovulate your egg will only live approx 24 hours. So when the ovulation kit shows up as positive this is the best time to have s*x and have as Much as you can until your one day past ovulation.  I hope this is helpful and good luck.

  5. I didn't test temperature but did use the ovulation testing kits which I would recommend.  We conceived straight away using them and its reassuring to see the pink line confirming you are ovulating.

  6. I have one friend who has used that method to conceive three children and another friend who has used it to conceive two children.

  8. I have a friend who used this method and it worked for her after 2 months.  I highly reccommend the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility".  It is very informative on this subject of Basal Body Temp and what to look for.  Good luck!!!

  9. This is called A Basal Body Temperature Charting. By charting your temperatures you can see patterns in your menstrual cycle and hopefully determine when you ovulate. There are do's and dont's you have to follow through.

Take your temperature at the same time every day by setting your alarm clock to wake you up each morning.

Take your temperature consistently. You can take your temperature orally, rectally, or vaginally. Whichever method you choose, make sure you are consistent.

Keep your thermometer, a chart and pen beside your bed ready so that you may take your temperature when your body is at rest.

Try to get a good night's sleep before taking your temperature.

Don't drink, smoke or eat anything before taking your temperature because these habits can affect the temperature in your mouth if you are taking your temperature orally.

You may print out free basal temperature chat on the net.

I have tried this few times but always get skipped. No success so far but my closed friend did and have a beautiful daughter, now aged 2..

  10. yes. it's BBT Charting that she's talking about and you'll read plenty of success stories online... peronsally i dont' think i know anybody who has done this (i've only just started). i guess the people i know with babies ended up with successful accidents... lucky them. lol.

as the first answerer said... i recommend that book.. Taking Charge of your Fertility... i've been reading and everytime i get thru a few pages i get so excited and angry at the same time!! it's like if i would have been told these things yeeeeaarrrsssss ago it would have made a lot of sense and i would have never ever gone on the pill.
