... that they were recording? What were your results?

I had "Ch***" call & after they said they were recording the call I asked them to hold on a second & I recorded it on my end. After I told the caller (right after I started recording) what I was doing they ended the call like a hot potatoe. What gives, they can record but not me? WTF?

  1. Well you hit the nail on the head.  Chase, Citibank, and just about every other bill collector out there love to record your conversations with them.  by doing so, should they find the need to take any legal recourse they can pull the data and use it in court with your full knowledge that it was being recorded.

However, the last thing that any bill collector wants is even ground.  If they record your calls, any calls they don't want to end up in court, should the need arise, will disappear or become "corrupt".  however if you are recording as well then you just leveled that field and they know that with holding any information, and your ability to produce it, would greatly reduce their position.  So you get hung up on.

Keep up the good work.  There is nothing better than harassing harassers.

  2. As long as you officially inform the caller that you are recording the call right way, continuing the call implies consent to be recorded. You can't record them without their consent.

Be careful, if you are dealing with a large amount of recent debt that is within the statute of limitations, such actions might provoke them to take you to court to get a judgement against you.
