Has anyone tried to migrate to Aust from NZ under a defacto visa as a foreigner?

I am an Irish citizen with a work permit for NZ and would like to apply to migrate to Australia under the Defacto spouse visa from NZ. Has anyone done this? IE Tried to join their Aus partner from NZ as a foreigner? I could stay in Ireland and applly but I feel alot closer to OZ if I do it from NZ!! Thanks! :)

  1. You can apply for offshore temporary and permanent visas (309 and 100) from anywhere outside Australia. There is no difference between NZ and Ireland for the purpose of applying for the visa.

    You can also apply for onshore temporary and permanent visas (820 and 801) from within Australia if that's appropriate for your circumstances. You will be able to work in Asutralia while on either of the temporary visas above while waiting for a permanent visa.

    The visa requirements for proving your spousal relationship are exactly the same for all spouse visas. The visa cost is less if you apply from outside Australia, but the difference is less than $700 and you may consider it to be worth the money. You will of course have to obtain some other visa to enter Australia.
