Our preschool class just completed shirts. We colored with the permanent markers and then used the eye dropper to add alcohol. Then we put the shirts in the dryer to set the color- about 15 minutes. However, when we washed them they still faded a lot. Has anyone tried this project before and how did you keep it from fading?

  1. To set color, dry on high heat for 30+ minutes.

Then soak in salt water overnight, wash and dry with no soap, no fabric softener. Then was as normal using soap.

I know it sounds like a lot, but is it the best way to keep the color when tie-dyeing that way.

  2. haven't tried that way. with my preschoolers we have just used the rite dye and they used glowes to keep hands clean, or frabic paint and crayons work just as well and they have just as much fun. either way they still need the salt water to help set them.
