There are a few of these locations near my job and I'm looking for a center that has a solid reputation in teaching/learning and quality child care that is affordable.

  1. I worked for bright Horizons, It is a good school but if you r looking for academics then choose another school

  2. No, I have one by my job as well. Hmm, wonder if we work at the same place. But when you find out if they're good or not, please let me know.

  3. It really depends it's a large chain of child care centers. Some are gonna suck and some are gonna be great. You'll just have to pop in and see.

  4. I am a certified teacher in NJ - currently teaching kindergarten in a public school.  Last year I had 3 students come from different Bright Horizons preschool classrooms and they assessed poorly in the beginning of the year academically.  Socially, the children were fine; while the children attended the preschool taught by an experienced teacher (not certified by the state)  from 8:30am-3:00pm, they stayed in daycare after formal teaching.

If you are considering Bright Horizons, you need to ask what curriculum is being presented and how the teachers assess the children academically and socially.  Also, ask about ration and whether or not the teacher has a standard teaching certificate from your state.

    Good luck!

  5. I have been in the early childhood profession for almost 10 years and have worked at 4 different centers, and the Bright Horizons that I am currently working at is by far the best child care center that I have ever seen.  In fact, it is the only center that I have been in that I would put my own children in.

The curriculum that we use helps children to have fun while gaining academic, social, and emotional skills.  In my area, the school district has rated Bright Horizons "graduates" very highly as far as school readiness.  The Bright Horizons website (www.brighthorizons.com) is a good resource for learning about their curriculum and school readiness.

All Bright Horizons are also NAEYC accredited or are working toward accreditation.  NAEYC (The National Association for the Education of Young Children) is the highest form of accreditation that a child care center can receive - it means that the center has lower teacher-child ratios, great teacher-child interactions, a well rounded curriculum, and a high level of health and safety standards.  The NAEYC website (www.naeyc.org) has more information.

As is true of any business, child care centers within the same company can vary from place to place.  The teachers, center director and regional manager can have a large impact on the quality of a center.  Parent involvement also makes a difference.  I can't guarantee that the center close to you will be great, but Bright Horizons as a whole is well-known in the early childhood community for providing quality child care.

    Good luck in your decision!
