I've read that this is a quick way to repair a head gasket, but does it really work on diesel engines?

  1. You'll probably find it wont work, i think on a diesel aswell it'll be even less likely as the stress gotta be higher.

Plus they tend to cause abit of a mess inside where ever they go.

They can work on minor leaks, but i would get the gasket replaced.

You'll pay extra getting everything flushed cleaned when you do come round to repair it.

  2. that is NOT a valid fix for an engine! it will get you by for a short time in an emergency but it is very bad for your radiator, and waterpump. If your head is cracked you need to replace it or have it repaired (if repairable) by a pro. what you will end up with is a blown engine, and bad radiatior and water pump.

  3. Steel Seal, is this a product similar to Holts Wonder Weld? From my experience these products do work, on all engines, if you follow the instructions - to the letter - if you don't they can clog you're cooling system, and will not work as you expected it to.

If you use your car for local driving this would be an OK quick fix, but don't rely on it for anything important.

  4. I havent tried it. But many mechanics advise not to use it.

  5. my head gasket has gone on my audi and i cant afford to have it done yet, so i bought some rad weld and hey presto so far so good, i know it wont last forever, but it will last till i can afford to have it done

  6. I would most certainly not use it on a diesel.  A Diesel relies so heavily on proper sealing and compression I really doubt that it would work.  Unfortunately a rebuild on a diesel can be 2 to 3 times the cost of gas engine, simply because of the pressure needed to maintain the combustion of diesel gas.  Look for a younger used engine, its always the cheaper root when dealing with diesels.
