  1. Don't go with a consolidation company, this will really hurt you in the long run.  These companies are a scam, and alot of credit card companies will not work with them.  You give them power of attorney to handle everything, they send cease and desist letters to your creditors--meaning they get all the mail from the creditors that you would be receiving otherwise.  They take your monthly payments--part of which goes to them for their services.  They hold all your money until they have enough to start settling with your creditors--at about 30-35%.  Generally you are giving them enough for a larger settlement, they are pocketing as much as they can from this.  By the time they start negotiating with your creditors, your accounts have gone very delinquent and charged off or been approved to go to an attorney or a third party collector, but you have no way of knowing this, since you are not getting mail.  Contact all your creditors yourself, and advise them of your situation.  They will work with you, get you on programs to stop or lower your interest, stop late charges and lower your payments.  Good Luck!!!   ***
