I am currently on lexapro for my anxiety. I like it b/c I have no major side effects and it works well. The only thing is I am gaining weight! I eat like a horse now and I just dont care about working out like I used to!

I have heard that Wellbutrin helps you to lose weight, but I was wondering if it works well for anxiety and what the side effects are? Thanks so much!

  1. It is not used for anxiety because it has a stimulating effect and that just causes more anxiety.

  2. I take both Wellbutrin SR (150 mg) in the morning, and Lexapro (10 mg) in the evening.  The above answers are correct that Wellbutrin doesn't work for anxiety as Lexapro does.  The Wellbutrin does make me more active - and with this combination I've actually been losing weight.  And, taking the Lexapro in the evening helps me sleep at night.

You might ask your doctor about doing something like this.  Lexapro and Wellbutrin work on different areas of the brain, so they kind of "compliment" each other.  But, the Wellbutrin doesn't help anxiety as does the Lexapro.

Best of luck to you :-)

    Paul.

  3. I've never taken it..but i did take lexapro..lexapro made me not care about ANYTHING so i can see where the lack of care for working out is...I'm on Fluoxetin now..it works great and i have NO side effects! i've never heard of the one you are talking about but if it does give you side effects..definitely try fluoxetin!

  4. i am on it now and personally i think it makes my anxiety worse. i guess it may work different for different ppl.

as far as side effects go... i have a really hard time getting to sleep.
