My four year old daughter is diagnosed with ASD and has a great deal of trouble with 'switching off' and sleeping. I've heard that weighted blankets can help. Has anyone used one?

  1. I personally don't have any experience with ASD, but I have been an insomniac half my life.

I can't take tablets to sleep, due to being a parent. I use flashing lights to help me sleep. Like disco balls, with the rotating flashes. It drives my Husband nuts, but it helps me sleep.

I also use a heavy blanket (well multiple blankets - Again driving Husband  nuts). It helps me, so I am sure it's worth a try.

  2. I havent used the weighted blanket but in my nephews school they used the weighted vests to get them to be calm and sit still.

It helped alot! that extra weight just helps kind of anchor them and make them feel more secure and I would think would help in getting her to sleep.. I would try the blanket.

    good luck.
