  1. I have used it.  In my cats they work wonderfully.  It was used as a training aid, and once I trained the cats to stop scratching the furniture, I didn't need them anymore.

It was easy to apply, it essentially glues the vinyl cap to the claw, and as the claw naturally sheds, the vinyl cap just comes off automatically.  And, softclaws/paws come in different colors :)  It can be a bit annoying to put on, especially if the cat doesn't like his paws being held, but some vet offices will do this.  The first time I put them on the cat, I didn't use enough of the glue, and they fell off quickly.  I also had another person helping me, which was wondful.  Made life so much easier.  It would have been much harder to do this myself.

My cats didn't mind them.  But, some will.  I've heard of cats that chew them off within days.   I know that some cats won't tolerate them, or they fall off quickly.  So it depends on each individual cat how he responds.

The nice thing is, that it costs only 20 bucks for 40 of them, so if it doesn't work out, you are not out that much money.

  2. wouldnt it be easier to clip its claws

the sell clippers for cats in petco

  3. I have used them often, I don't put them on myself however.  When I take my cats to be brushed out and their ears cleaned and claws trims, I go ahead and have the groomer put on the soft claws.  I had them put on because the cats destroyed my first couch, and I wasn't about to allow them to do it to my new furniture (it was wicker).  They walked weird at first (imagine using fake nails on your fingers and then try to type - it's a strange feeling). but they get used to it.  They may try to nibble on them, mine did, but didn't like the taste and stopped.  I haven't had any problem with them since I started two years ago.

As for them being defenseless if they escape to the outside?  Didn't happen - Monster was a mean as ever and scared the dog next door when he accidentally escaped through a window.  Just be more vigilant.  Good luck!!

  4. My vet do not recommend these either. they are uncomfortable on the animal and if the animal ever escapes the house they have no real way of defending themselves nad it makes it hard for them to hunt. Simply get them something you want them to scratch and train them to scratch that object alone. Giving a treat only at that object, and when they use that object is a good way, also putting cat nip on the object will encourage proper scratching.

  5. I used them for one of my cats cause he kept scratching his nose bald ( mosquito bites) and he was okay with them- once you put them on its important to stay with kitty till the glue dries and they do fall off but not all at once- are you sure that you can't arrange for him to have his own special place to scratch ? I got mine an ottoman and they don't bother the leather any more.  Sometimes that's all it takes is giving them their own piece of furniture and its cheaper in the log run.  Declawing should not be an option- if your cat should get out of the house on accident it would have no way of defending itself.

  6. I have three cats who LOVE to scratch so I bought soft paws and used them for about 4 months till I realized one on my cats would actually pull them off the other cats as almost a favor to them...  I did a little research and found a NO SCRATCH spray that works awesome.  Below are some links we used and think they might help you out.

  7. I have 3 cats and I did try this once. It was a stressful attempt to try to get them on and they fell off very quickly. My oldest, a male, managed to chew his off in about an hour. Because the scratching was getting out of control, I had my husband build a simple ramp on a 45 degree angle about 2 feet high out of plywood. He then stapled a cheap throw rug to it and we sprinkled it with catnip. They were drawn to it like bees to honey. All in all it cost about $7 to build, he used scrap wood and the rug was $5. We also trim there claws weekly now. Sunday nights in front of the tv, one holding a cat, the other snipping away....
