Has anyone used the 'Hands On Homeschooling" curriculum for their 2 or 3 year old? The samples on the website look interesting and we were considering purchasing it. I was just wanting to hear from someone with first hand experience with using it.

This is one of the only curriculum packages I have found that is really geared towards 2 year olds and not adapted from something else.

  1. Hi there,

We used HOH and it is great fun, gentle and full of meaningful ideas.

Terri, the author, has put all her teaching and parenting ideas into small 20 minute segments for little one.

If your child enjoys one of the activities you can let them do it over and over during the day.

The greatest benefit was that she makes use of a lot of household items so that you do not need to stretch your budget unnecessarily.

  2. I've never heard of it,but it sounds interesting.I home school my three year old "by ear"...I started with the basics..alphabet(reciting,reading and writing the letters),numbers(reciting reading, writing),shapes(drawing, and recognizing),colors(recognizing),days of the week, months of the year,...etc.,etc.,

  3. If you have time enough to spend with your child,  start  story telling where animals and toys  are characters.  They can understand only mummy, daddy, grandma, grandpa, cycle, car etc.  There are  books available in good book stores in your city on stories  for all ages.  Buy and know it first and tell her in a dramatic way moving your hands and gait and changing your expressions and ask him/her to repeat it. This is very important to invoke his participation.

Let there be only angels in your stories and no devils.

Bed time story telling, stories at dining table, even stories when bathing,  gives you an intimate touch with your child.

Be patient and if they don't listen, take a different toy and tell a story on it.  Mummy dog, cat daddy and chicks and birds will flow out of your own imagination.  This will develop a creativity in your child.  I have tried.  They have grown well.

    Wish you colourful parenting.

  4. I don't think you need a "curriculum" for this age.  Just be involved with them.   Read to them, talk with them, play with them and teach them to explore the world around them.

IF you think you need some ideas then check out some books at the library for activities, finger plays, etc.

READ, read and read some more to them on all kinds of good subjects.  Not all the nonsense stuff but true things.  Almost all children this age love animals so it is a great place to start.  It is amazing the information they will pick up and WANT to learn.  Just give them the chance.
