I have the traditional hammer and punch and was looking at buying the Fiskars eyelet setter, but it is a little pricy so was wondering if someone had one and used it and what they thought. Thanks in advance.

  1. The Fiskars eyelet setter was my first eyelet setter, I'd never used anything else.  I LOVE IT!!!! I understand where the other people are coming from, it may be hard to use if you have arthritis. But I personally found it very easy to use and I always look for an excuse to use it. However, whenever I see someone looking at one, I want to warn them about one thing. The second or third time I went to use it, I figured out that it wasn't going to be perfect, that it has one major flaw- it limits how far into the paper you can punch and set. Like, if I wanted to set something in the middle of a large piece, I couldn't do it, i wouldn't even be able to get to the middle.  With the hammer and punch, you can go wherever, but this will only let you go about two inches in.

Those are my thoughts. I LOVE my Fiskars, but it does have its drawbacks. By the way, I bought mine at Christmas for $15.00 (down from, I think $35.00)  in a handy "travel" case with 100 free eyelets. Christmas is a good time to buy, if you aren't in a hurry.

    Good luck and have fun!

Woah! It's early, I think I'm not thinking clearly, I'm sorry- the setter I was talking about is a Crop-A-Dile, not a Fiskars, SORRY!!!! Still, hopefully that will help there. Oops....;)

  2. I found it a bit difficult as my hands are arthritic.  I was interested in the first answer, and may follow that through (sorry, it's not an informed answer, but just an opinion).

  3. I decided to get an eyelet setter a few months ago, so I tried my friend's Fiskars eyelet setter. It was very hard to get it to punch through card stock.

So, I read reviews of different eyelet setters online and decided on the Crop-A-Dile Eyelet & Punch kit.  This one:

You can get them without the case and eyelets, but they're not much cheaper.  I really really like it!  It punches through cardstock easily, and chipboard, too.  It's great for punching holes for brads, too.
