If so are the ovulation tests accurate?

I just used one for the 1st time yesterday! According to the charting of  my basal body temp I've been doing since January its accurate. I used the 1st response daily ovulation test.

Yes, test strips are pretty accurate and they're certainly cheaper than the tests you'll get in stores. Also check out early-pregnancy-tests.com which have free super-fast shipping in discreet packaging. Their tests used to be 90c each, but you'd have to double check that price.
