  1. I have Vonage and I am very happy with it and the service.

I have no long distance bills at all.  I do have a cell phone, occasionally the internet goes out here and I am left without a phone.

But, overall, after you get the hang of the equipment and the service, for an all inclusive package deal, it's the best out there.

Before I had Vonage I was a Sunrocket.com subscriber and they closed and I switched to Vonage instead of another small VoIP company

because Vonage has been in business for more than five years.

    Good luck!

  2. I have been using it for about two years.  I have absolutely no complaint.  No issues and no problems.  It just works.

Of course, my interent service is very reliable and stable.  I also have a cell phone as a backup in case the service goes down and I need to call someone.

  3. Two things to consider before changing to ANY Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) phone service.

    1. You loose your 911 identifier service.  This is the service that tells the 911 operator where the call originates from.  You have to personally tell the operator your address.  This can be a serious problem if you find yourself in a situation of crisis or duress.

    2. The system requires you to have the power on in your home.  Even the more advanced systems that allow you to connect your original phones require power to operate the interface/modem.  Therefore, if you loose power you loose your phone ability through the system.

Cell phones rely on power at the cell tower to keep them operable.  They usually have some form of power supply to keep them online for an interruption, but cannot be counted on in the event of a regional disaster.

If you use a lot of long distance, it is worth the changeover.  However, you would be well advised to keep one phone connected to a phone company line with their absolute minimum connection fees as an emergency phone.  Now that most of the service is provided underground with fiber-optics, the most reliable utility is a land line phone.
