Has anyone volunteered at a veteran's hospital? Can you tell me about your experience?

Did you actually feel like your were being useful, or did you just pass out blankets and greet people like volunteers do at other hospitals? I have also considered volunteering at the red cross. Which would give me a better hand on experience? I am looking to gain experience before I apply to nursing school, and already have one year of experience as a CNA.

I am planning on volunteering at a local hospital.  I am sure a veteran's hospital would be more rewarding and impressive; it is different and the experience can be life-changing.  I would recommend that you do indeed volunter if you were planning to do so.  It would be cool to know about veterans' experiences and their lives.
