  1. I have three sets of friends who are in inter-racial relationships here in South Africa.  Two have kids - very happy and healthy kids!  It is very well accepted in South Africa, more than most other countries I have visited.

  2. Me, however I still cannot sum the feeling of the population. In  a poor rural village from Limpopo people were really starring but  seem harmless and were friendly and smilling at us. You can see it is wholeheartedly. In Bloemfontein - central SA, the was tension a bit, mainly the white males (please it is my observation not racism). In Sandton, north of Johannesburg, no one cared and no one turned. In various shopping malls people looked but were harmelss really, waterfront Randburg and all the Gates of johannesburg, north, south, east and west and white river next to nelspruit. However, riverwalk shopping mall in Potchefstroom, i am not sure, some people can frown. In tourist spot is ok, people are business orintated than stupid racial interest. They see you and see money than your fiancee or something. But if your husband is black, the interesting thing to notice is, waiters in restaurants do not know who to give the Bill to. The white Ms or the man because he is the man? It is interesting to watch. And yes, in a golf course in Kempton park, there was this funny guy who behaved like a ticking bomb.

I am flying there towards the end of the year. I will come with more data.

But in general I feel safe and of course concerning the history see this as fun and avoid frowning people, since it might be dangerous.

Take care, South Africa is nice.

  3. To give you a South African perspective, some of my friends are in interracial marriages and they are just like every other couple. However, my experience is skewed based on the fact that I'm talking about people in Johannesburg. I'm guessing that things are probably different outside the urban areas.

One of my Australian cousins and her husband (she is white he is black) honeymooned in SA last year. They toured around the country and they never had any negative experiences and I'm sure they will visit again.
