Has anyone worked in a Chinese Restaurant?

I was wondering if they REUSE their white rice when the customers can't finish it at their table. The authentic chinese restaurants bring out small buckets of rice and I was always curious if they reuse the uneaten rice in those buckets.

  1. My mom used to own a Chinese restaurant.

No, generally speaking, Chinese restaurants do not re-use rice that has been served before. The cost of the rice is not worth the cost of losing business or being shut down because of unsanitary food handling practices. Of course if you search long enough, you'll find someone doing what they're not supposed to.

  2. no

  3. i wouldnt put it past them. i think lots of restuarants, chinese or otherwise, reuse food, and it makes me very uneasy about eating out...

  4. I haven't worked in a Chinese place before but I do know it is illegal to reuse food that has been served unless it is in a sealed container. So I would guess that most don't. Beside I can you one thing for sure just plain white rice is cheap. When I was cooking and doing the ordering for the place I worked it made me laugh one day when I ordered a 25 lb bag of rice. Then later that day I was shopping for myself and bought a 5lb bag of rice and the price difference was less than a dollar.

  5. well this wasnt a chinese resturaunt but i worked at a place where they served salads with the drinks and if the salad looked uneaten we had to put it back in the big bowl in the kitchen
