Why are people so worried about buying green? Is it turning into a trend?

I feel like some people don't understand that if you don't buy new, you don't have to buy green. (with an exception given to appliances, cars, and light bulbs). But buying "green" things like organic cotton t-shirts, cups made from recycled glass, etc, just doesn't make since when you can buy it all USED and be even "green-er"

  1. yea it kinda is

    its a good thing tho

    so ya who cares

    its good to buy green

    totally not used

    gross

  2. It's a religion now.

  3. omg no green is UGLY (i like more of a prada green) but nvm pink is still the trend

  4. No Green SUV'S unless with paint. These are what to worry about. Speaking of trends a good one would be to vote in Mayors which stand for a Henry Ford, Public Solar Power, factory approach to getting Solar Power as part of the economy. Posters campaigns to get people like this into power would be a trend which helps end Global Warming. Solar Power Party, Solar Power Movement.

  5. Yes it has but I don't follow it

  6. Nice Question. No, BEING green has not turned into a trend. It should, because it is being green that is better for us, our pocket, the environment and all that live in it. There is a strong green movement that is getting stronger, but every additional new 'Greenie' makes a difference so everybody is welcome.

However, I agree, BUYING green has turned into a trend. You are correct, I totally agree with you. Until people realize that NOT buying things is the key to being green, then they will keep on causing more environmental damage by demanding the latest green must-haves. Buying Green is better, I suppose than buying mass produced sweat shop items, but it is still BUYING more.

Being Green is about conservation of resources, that is by NOT buying, then buying second hand or recycled goods only when there is a real need such as when an item wears out.

  7. Why buy when we can give things to each other and trade them too I just signed up for freecycle.org and I'm sure it will be a good investment as well as buying used.

  8. It hasn't for me or anyone else i know!?

  9. NO BUT SMOKIN IT HAS

  10. yes it has turned into a trend. As a 20 year old college student, I know that it is not just about the here, now, and the next few years, it is our children, our children's children and so forth... We want the best for our children and their well-being.

  11. It has turned into a religion.

  12. good point...but everything now a days is about money

  13. No, it hasn't turn into a trend.  In fact, it gotten people to be

more aware of the environment.  I always thought that peo-

ple needed to start recycling in the early seventies.  By now

we probably wouldn't have to think about recycling this or

that, we would just do it.  And that would be better for every-

    one.

  14. Just ask Kermit.  It's not easy being green.

  15. It is nothing more than a fad like beanie babies.............

  16. I know where you're coming from. Pink was the thing a couple years ago, "the new black." I have a friend that claims "green is the new black" as well, which makes sense...Green is a really popular color now with adolescents, so you're bound to see a lot of green items in a store that is popular with younger people. 75% of all adolesants like to fit in with the crowd, so about 25% of our population is going to be buying green.

  17. Live it up... The world is going to end in 2012 anyway. The earths poles are going to shift and the earths protection from the sun will shut down, the magnetic field will turn itself off for a period of 7 weeks. The seas will boil, the farms will dry up, and many will starve. Enjoy the next 4 years, its all that is left.

  18. If it is a trend then that is a very good thing. Most trends do not make sense, they are materialistic, this one has a meaning and an effect. I see your point about buying used and you are right.

  19. Kermit started it. everyone else follows.

  20. uhhhhh ummmmm

  21. Green is not just buying, its a lifestyle, but somethings I would rather buy new.

  22. I dont know about the trend part, but it has definatly become more socialy acceptable to be green. The corperate world has been much quicker to adopt green policies than goverments. The reason for this is they have realised there is money to be made from being green. Not only in the form of lower utility bills but also from filling niche markets. And as far as im concered i love it. For too long it has been the domain of universities  with limited budgets funding green technologies but now that the corperate world has come on board the is greater funding for R&D and product development.

  23. Of course, used is the best in my opinion. Buying used clothes to make new clothes is even better. A lot of "green" clothing helps those who make the clothing - in poor countries, etc. Some of these companies producing green clothing are setting an example by paying their workers in other countries fair wages. Of course, Wal-Mart is now selling organic clothing...I'm sure they're not being fair. If buying green has become a trend, it might possibly be the best trend in the history of the world! Even if someone is doing it just to say they did - well - at least they did it! For once, doing something just because other people are doing is actually a good thing - though it is better to be conscious about why you're doing it.

  24. green........?

  25. "Green" has become more of a marketing trend than anything. "green" is a term more used by producers to trick people into buying their products. Reusing things is an excellent way to help the environment as well as recycling and many other things that can be done

  26. green is an awesome color!!!

  27. yes more for a trend of nice flowing money since that is what big corps are really after.

look at China or the US  theres more corruption than you think.

  28. true dat.

but buying used cups is kinda gross

  29. People like new things, this trend is being marketed, with all the organic places like Trader Joes and Whole Foods, back in the 70's things used to be organic and then changed, it's also influencing interior design as designers and architects are looking at green material. People want new things but want to feel less guilty by being good to the earth, especially at times like these where the world is being affected by global warming and many other tragic things, being good to the earth is just one less thing to worry about
