I knew Bush wasn't a real conservative. What do they call it, a Neo-Con? Anyway, isn't this amazing?

What happened to the Goldwater and Buchanan style of conservatism?

  1. It has been bought and paid for by corporate interest leading to a fascist slant concerning our national political system....

By the way, this occured to the democratic side too.

  2. Nobody calling himself or herself a conservative could support this DoJ interpretation and lackadaisical support of clear 2nd Amendment rights.

  3. Well Goldwater lost in a landslide advocating nuclear warfare as the cure-all for many things and Buchanan just never was flexible enough to accomplish compromise (I like him tho', and I'm a Yellow Dog Democrat).

But, in truth and historically speaking, Conservatism is all about Corporate Welfare. They didn't have that term when the first Republican was elected to the White House but even Abe Lincoln saw the Republican Party wasn't for him and he left to win his 2nd term as an independent.

  4. I don't know how a true conservative could support corporate welfare. That is not my understanding of a conservative philosophy. A conservative believes in limited government through an honest reading of the Constitution. Instead of looking to the federal government all the times for answers, which the Founding Fathers would have been opposed to, a conservative believes a local decision is best. In a real sense, there is confidence in an informed individual to deal with situations rather then a nanny state which we have today.

Goldwater in his later years moved closer to a libertarian point of view. I honestly don't think he advocated nuclear warfare.

  5. Although President Bush is not a true conservative, I have not heard anything about this on the NRA News site. I understand that the person who submitted this story to the blog site that your link goes to, shoews many things that show him to be a supporter of the 2nd Amendment, He shows no proof.

I think that this story is a little bit more hype than anything
