  2. It has been a Democratic Republic since 15 September 1821.  

    Before that, it was governed by many powers  including the gods-as-rulers style of the Mayans , the Monarchy of the queen of Spain (and yes, I am aware of the irony), and the Joint rule of the Central American Federation.

  3. go to http://www.ask click on the former Jeeves number five on the site, type in el salvador- click on the history of government that shows up, it is a very interesting read.  Once Cortez conquered El Salvador, it was ruled by dictator's then the PRC  which lead to a revolution, cost them about 75,000 lives when they invaded Honduras, now it has been a democratic run country since 1971.

  4. It used be the military was in charge,now I think there's a civilian government but the military is probably still in charge,you have to research this.
