  1. I think it's good, but then again  the recycling collections in my area are excellent.  It has forced my hubby and I to think about what we throw away and to recycle everything.  This means we have more than halved our non-recyclable rubbish.

However last year we had an incident with maggots in all the hot weather, which was very unpleasant.  Since then I have put waste meat products in a bag in the freezer until the evening before bin collection - a bit of a pain but better than maggots!

  2. Not starting here until October, but there will be some problems with people putting stuff in other's bins, hopefully not here but in towns it could be bad.  Also, our new rules state that the bin lids have to be closed all the way or they won't take them - that just sounds lame!  Two weeks' worth and they don't take it, what happens then?  Also I don't think there will be enough room for all the recycling stuff in one bin, currently we have one big bin for paper and a big bag for bottles etc, but they've just increased what can be recycled by about ten-fold and will be taking the bag off us, so that bin is going to fill up really quickly.

  3. I have never had a problem with it of course my wheelie bins are a distance from my house and I compost most left over food. There is always the tip if you dont want to put it in your bin for that long.

Also if you live near the counrty you can take the carcase for a ride and leave it for an animal to eat they would like that.

  4. Luckily my bins still get collected every week and they have no plans to change that either thank god! As we don't have wheelie bins where I live so the seagulls and neighbours cats would have a field day!

Friends and family of mine who live in a different borough only get there's collected fortnightly and are always moaning that the bin is overflowing despite the recycling and compost bin.

I wouldn't be impressed if we had rubbish hanging round for 2 weeks.

  5. Our bins are emptied fortnightly but the recycling bins, including food waste, are collected weekly. I would say we recycle about 50% of our total waste which is OK.

But your carcass is gonna pong! Wrap it well!

  6. I think it`s bloody outrageous.

  7. the system is a typical WOULDN`T IT BE A GOOD IDEA IF WE ---IDEA that most councils seem to come up with on a regular basis.when asked what to do with food waste in hot weather ,when it will be at the side of the house for 2 weeks, local council reply,

wrap it in 2 layers of plastic.

it will stop flys getting in and smells getting out.

    HOW GREEN IS THAT

    solution

wrap council offices in two layers of plastic for 14 days

then re elect a new council

  8. if its well wrapped in newspaper it shouldn't be a problem. i have never had a maggot in all the time i have been doing it, about 18 months now,  i never thought i would be able to cope with having my main bin emptied once a fortnight, but have surprised myself and actually have room left in the bin when its put out, it does take a bit of extra time to sort it, but its easy enough

my recycling is emptied every week, its just the big main bin that is emptied once a fortnight

  9. they started to only collect ours every 3 weeks so you can just image the smell!!!!!!!!!!!! so i changed to different collecter who does it weekly much better

  10. Not a problem here.

No rotting food in our bin.  All the meat is eaten, any  veg waste is composted.

  11. seems to be working here where i am in Scotland

  12. A decrease in the service provided by the local council. Still managed to increase the council tax again though. They want it both ways.

It's the smell in the Summer thats worst. No matter what you do wrap it, bag it or use a bin liner the smell gets into the bin plastic and you can't get rid of it.

Not only is it an health hazard but it is beginning to bring vermin out in broad daylight. I've seen 3 rats in the past twelve months - fortunately not on my immediate locality but in the town centre. Prior to this hadn't seen one for years.

  13. I have no problem with it. I used to live in an area where the collections were alternate weeks. Recycling on week one and other general waste on week 2. I was with a family of four and the only bit that was ever completely full was the recycling bin. The other one only evey got to a maximum of half way.

Where I am now in a household of 2 our waste is collected weekly but there is only ever 2 small peddle bin sized bags i nout general waste. So I would have no problem when it is introduced into our area.
