Has it been a olympics tradition... free foods and drinks in the olympics village canteens?

I know all foods and drinks are free inside Beijing olympics village , but how about in Syndey and Athens in the past ? most importantly how about free foods and drinks in London 2012 olympics village.

I cannot imagine the London Olympic village canteen not  providing free food in line with Sydney and Beijing
