  1. I don't know, but the YMCA here closes the pools whenever there is lightning. Both pools are indoors.

If you find an answer, I would be interested in seeing it.

  2. Many years ago I was aware it did somewhere . I do know that lightning strikes are much more prevalent now than in the past ; but who knows why . All public pools ( indoor & outdoor ) close up when lightning is spotted in the vincinity . I have personally seen lightening come through an open first floor window less than 5 ft. from me ; so I guess I'm lucky .

  3. no yur face got hit that does count

  4. I found reports of people dying in a boat on open water and a suspected death of a swimmer in a river, but no pool deaths.

The following link talks about the importance of clearing indoor pools if lightning is within 5 miles, but -- oddly -- admits that they have seen no reports of deaths of indoor swimmers. Deaths in a home bathtub? Yes -- but not in indoor pools.

"We could find no reports of deaths or injuries in indoor pools related to lightning causes," says Richard Kithil of the National Lightning Safety Institute and Kevin Johnston, a senior consultant.  They suspect such incidents happen, but go unreported."

It seems like the kind of thing you'd be able to find evidence of if it's happened, right? But I couldn't find anything for any pools -- either or indoor or outdoor. Maybe my google skills are slipping.
