has any mid to high handicapper get fitted for clubs here? I am looking at G10's. I am of avg size and height. But, I am hoping the "Ping fitting" will make a difference in the way I strike the ball. Will it work?

  1. yes it does work. I helps have the club lenght fitted properly esp if your 6'4 like me. Also it is fitted to your hand so you can have a better grip b/c it will be wided properly. I had mine done by way of tgw.com and i also know a retailer like d**k's Sporting Goods will do it too b/c a good friend of mine had it done there.

  2. I just got fitted for the Taylormade R7 CGB Max irons, I usually shoot high 80's low to mid 90's from the blues.  They had to add an inch to length and add a degree to the face, cause of how I make impact with the ball, I got them in the mail and went to the range two days ago, I am getting 10-20 yards longer than my old Cleveland Vas (about 14 years old) and pretty accurate. Even mishits are pretty solid, so I would recommend getting your iron "Tailored" to your swing, even though I haven't played with these clubs yet, I will today, I can already tell they make a difference!

  3. Absolutely.  Getting the proper sized club for you is just as important as getting the correct shoe size.  Sure you could probably 'learn to run' in jumbo sized shoes but you wouldn't run as steady and fast as you would in shoes that are right for your size.  Then you have to somewhat 'relearn' to run in shoes your size when its time.  Same thing applies to golf clubs.  Not only is the length and shaft flex important but the loft and lie is extremely important.  This is determined by your height and swing plane.  Some players have a flatter swing while others are more steep.  I think it's a great thing to do for a player of any handicap.  Good luck.

(Note: most pro golf places can actually 'bend' clubs to your loft/lie specs if you already purchased new clubs, look into it.)

  4. yes, it will work. so don't waste your money on clubs. get yourself fitted and you can see the different and enjoyed the game better.

  5. Yes, getting a proper fitting will really help. If for no other reason, just the fact that the clubs length and lie angle are right for you will give you more confidence. Example, I'm 6'2" and a solid 250. I assumed I would need extra length and stiff shafts. Wrong! My arms are long also so I have standard length clubs with lie adustments of 2 degrees upright. Also, there wasn't much difference between the regular and stiff shafts when it came to club head speed, but because of the ball launch angle, I have the regular shafts. You could be of average height, but have longer or shorter arms and need length adjustments. I went to the PGA store in Atlanta with the intentions of buying the Mizuno MP-60. I paid for the club fitting and after talking with the fitter about such things as average score (no official handicap), ball flight, distance...., he suggested the MX-25. After a few swings, and lie adjustments, I bought a set. I went from the mid 90's to the upper 80's with 2 personal best rounds of 84. Mind you, (since I don't hit any woods), that is with the 4 iron off all tee's other than short par 3's. So yes, the fitting will help.
