Has my UPS delivery date been over estimated?

I have just ordered a package from NM, I live in NY, and the estimated day of delivery is the Aug 27th, but this morning I checked the status and it says the package is in transit to NJ... in my mind the package should be able to get to me in NY by Friday, considering that the package will already be in NJ today. Does UPS ground sometimes over estimate the day of delivery? What will the status say when it is finally on its last trip to me? Also is it possible for me to go to the hub in my area and pick up the package.... because I have a feeling that it will definitely get here by friday, but it will sit in the hub the whole weekend. Any suggestions/ answers?

u may not like to take a chace by calling ups and telling them that u r gonna pick it up..coz it may delay ur pkt more..states like nm,mt,sd and a few more generally take 4-5 business days for ground service...next time u wna send or get anythng let us knw..we are courier svc in nyc..email at [e-mail]

Just track daily for progress, if it's due Friday, check about 10;00 a.m. It will tell you if it's on the truck for delivery that day. Unless it is specified on delivery instructions going to pick it up will send them over to Stupidtown along with the package.

They have always been right within about one or two days.
