Question:

Has my account been hacked?

On two occasions now, I've noticed failed delivery emails in my hotmail inbox. When I scroll down the email, it has some sort of spam-type thing about mobile phones, but I don't know any of the email addresses it's been sent to.

What I want to know is, does this mean my account's been hacked? I've changed my password, but is there anything else I can/should do?

  1. you could get a new email

    or search you computer

    it miht be a viris

  2. you should get a new email addy

  3. Don't worry about it Vicksta,

Spammers spoof people's email addys and hotmail is the most popular. One or two doesn't matter at all. I've had them once a while too.

If you have several dozen/hundred failed deliveries, you need to disconnect from internet and run an anti-spyware and anti-virus scan.

Make sure your new password has symbols and numbers in it to make it difficult to crack. Take a look at the link below about how easy it is to crack some passwords.

    ADDED EDIT.

I still think you're okay. Look in your 'sent' folder and see if anything has been sent. If it's clear you should be fine and your addy has only been spoofed. All I can suggest is that you run the anti-spyware and anti-virus progs. This should find any malware on your PC, keyloggers, trojan, virus etc. Call round to a friends and change your password just to be careful. I've added a second link that should reassure you : ) You can email me if you want anymore help

  4. I dont think you've been hacked cos sumtimes websites get you email and send random stuff because it also happens to me but if you block that email those things won't come nymore....hope ths helps

  5. Change your password as soon as you can, its possible that your account has been hijacked - if you have ever used any MSN 'enhancements' or add on software i would advise against using them as they frequently have things in them that steal your password (some you even have to type in your password to use!). I have seen msn IM spam peoples friends before after they had put their password into an enhancement of some sort, so theres no reason why your hotmail account couldnt be hijacked in a similar way.

It could also be that you have something on your computer that has logged that password so it might not be a bad idea to run a couple of anti-malware scanners like SuperAntiSpyware and Malware Bytes AntiMalware.

  6. Run a good check for viruses.trojans and spyware, both programs are good and they are free.
