  1. I passed my car test in 12 lessons.

But that was 25 years ago, long before instructors figured out how to rip people off by saying that everyone needs a minimum of 100 lessons, or whatever it is...

  2. I had a pupil who was taking lessons with me.  Her friend was with one of my colleague and her friend passed first time with him.  My pupil just was not ready for her test, but she changed to him and failed 4 times..... She passed on her 5th attempt and then 3 weeks later she was going round a left bend and skidded and took out 2 vehicles.  She was then sent to "driving school" and is now a slighly better driver.

People learn differently.  I had one boy who had 20 hours with me, and after his lesson with me, went out with his dad for another 2 hours and passed.

  3. It's not about the instructor, it's about the driver. If you can pick it up easily and perform well, then you'll be ok.

You could have 20 lessons, or 80 lessons. It's all about you.

There are "crash-courses" available, where you can pay a lump sum, and have a full week of driving, then you're put in for your test.

    Check the Yellow Pages.

  4. It's so easy to drive, you don't need lessons from anyone.  I drove on three different occasions, then took the test and passed.  Don't sweat it, teach yourself.

  5. Yep, I agree with the person above - it's not just about the instructor, it's also about you. The best way to pass quickly and cheaply is to concentrate on what the instructor tells you and apply yourself as much as you can.

The link below has free information on the right questions to ask to find the best instructors. Good luck.

  6. sweetiepie and britbloke have it spot on.

I have some pupils who pass in a matter of weeks and yet I have some who have taken nearly a year!

Yeah the instructor does play a part - you need an instructor that wants you to pass as much as you do! And you need your instructor to be friendly and understanding and good at teaching!!

Unfortunately the rest really is up to you! Everyone is different and learns at different speeds in different ways!

What I would suggest is that you always make sure you go with a well known FULLY QUALIFIED driving instructor that other people have been with. Be careful when looking at large national driving schools as some use trainee instructors! And they offer "5 lessons just £50" trust me - if it looks to good to be true - it most probably is!

You get what you pay for in driving tuition! Good luck :)

  7. I had 15 HOURS of lessons (not actually 15 lessons) and I passed first time..

    Trouble is I'm in Norfolk.

I suggest you use the AA (like I did)

You can buy blocks of hours for a great price and then use them how you like with a fully qualified instructor. You get a years roadside breakdown cover for free as well. Really worked for me.
