  2. there is something in what you say

our greed for knowledge made the medical profession effective in reducing early deaths and therefore caused population explosion.

our greed for knowledge made us learn how to produce more complicated tools, many of which increase our dominance over other species.

there are many examples, but to sum it up, I like very much the human greed for knowledge, despite it's effects on the globe, I enjoy being the top predator, an old man, I love the comforts knowledge brought me.

  3. This is a possibility.  If the search for knowledge has caused and is causing global warming then we should all switch off our PCs and give the world a rest for a while.

  4. ok...thought about it.

energy use per capita in the West has fallen in the last thirty years because we no longer manufacture.  More energy is required to process aluminium than what you would save by having those irritating timer light switches that you continually have to push.

We instead are knowledge workers, and computers don't really require more energy than other household appliances, which you probably would be using if your Internet connection was down.

And knowledge has led to the medicines that keep your lame **** alive.
