Question:

Has "Queen" Bea got too precious for words?

OK... disregarding a clearly disappointing performance in her event. (That can happen to anyone)...

Disregarding an, at best, unapologetic attitude in her post event interview...

Now she wants to leave Beijing early (instead of staying to support all her TEAM MATES) and she is miffed because she would have to pay her own way!

So let me get this straight, Taxpayer funded underperformance, zero contrition for that, no great desire to support the other Kiwis and stroppy that she has to pay her travel expenses if she doesn't hang in there and support the Kiwis still competing. (yup, gotta be hard getting free accommodation and tickets to Olympic events.... there's a whole world that would kill for that opportunity).

Sorry... but she is sounding bloody ungrateful and a bit precious for my liking! What do you think?

  1. She was a has been 2 Olympics back and I just cannot figure why she was selected for 08.   When  you hear a sportsperson say that coming 28th out of 38th was okay then one must seriously question her motives for even being in sport.     As a long time sports follower I am disgusted with not only her effort but her PC response and only hope that the sources of her funding cut the purse strings.

  2. It kinda gets worse - after her elimination, she was talking about how she'll do in London! No mention of "I hope I can rediscover my old form between now and then" or something like "Beijing has been a big disappointment and I want to prove I can still come back better and stronger". No - just a bizarre assumption that it's a given she will be competing in London.

If we can only send one discus thrower, wouldn't we rather send an 18 year old hopeful on their way up? Bea talks like she OWNS some kind of permanent Olympic berth - is this to actively discourage young girls from taking up the sport and forcing her out? Precious, yes. Ungrateful - sounds like it. Maybe she should get selected for "sport dancing" when it becomes an Olympic sport. That way, the horror of Dancing with the Stars, the stupidity of dancing being considered a sport, and a past-it prima donna with an attitude can all be avoided with one channel switch.
