Has rugby union gained in popularity in U.S.A. since recent world cup series?

i know gridiron is THE football game in the states, but does rugby have a following there?

  1. Who cares. They are yanks. The less of them the better


  2. Not much of one. some schools play it.

Rugby has a limited, but growing, popularity in the US.  (Live there, born there, and play rugby.)  Rugby union (and league is begininning to grow as well) is a grassroots movement at present, and there are certain areas it is more prevalent than in others, specifically California.  There are about 60 thousand or so odd registered players (you can check www.usarugby.org for stats) and most people are exposed to the game in college, and play it afterward, as well as expats from other countries.  Since it isn't a mainstream sport yet (and I think it has serious potential) most people that are aware of it are players or explayers, and coverage is virtually nonexistant on television except via satellite, so World Cup matches for the Eagles haven't, sorry to say, been made available to the mainstream public.
