I use a qwest wireless modem but lately the 2WIRE641-2 connection isn't holding. my comp seems to want to connect to Dynex all the time with limited access. and in the control panel under "computer" and "network" it shows a dynex DX-WGRTR modem. I also seem to be losing some memory space recently. my internet connection constantly goes on and off. has someone hacked in and is using my comp??

  1. it seems your computer is connecting to your neighbor with a Dynex router.  Reposition your router closer to your PC so you conect to your router with greater strength.

I dont think you have been hacked, but now it the time to implement security.  read about WPA security techniques, it will keep out the casual hackers.

  2. There is a setting that will tell your computer to choose one network over another. Check to make sure that you have the one you want at the top of the list.

In Vista, go to the Network and Sharing Center. On the right hand side click "Manage Wireless Networks."  Then you can select your network and drag it to the top or click "Move Up."  If you don't want to connect to the other one at all any more, you should be able to Remove it.

If you are not using Vista, I'm sure you have a similar option somewhere in your wireless card settings.
