At the end of the World war II (1939-45). the great powers of the world have established the UNO with high hopes.

In 1948 its Security Council was called upon to solve two problems: (i) Israel and its Arab neighbours war (May) , and (ii) The Kahmir problem(Nov.)

It has not solved them yet.

Cosequent to these Middle East and Indo- Pak isues continue for the last 59 years.

Has not time come to resove these?

  1. Frankly No. Till then the Veto Power is there in the hands of few governments it is not possible.

  2. The United nations was essentially created to provide a semblance of sanity after the absolute insanity/brutality perpetrated upon humanity during the 2nd world war. United nations has succeeded in simply codifying the conduct of a civilized world but nothing more than that. Please do not forget that political equations among nations keep on changing and they have changed at a breakneck speed after the advent of the modern jet age, and they will keep on changing till the end of the world, it is very difficult for United Nations or any other Global body to bind 150 nations together, but yes it can give a goody goody feeling among nations that there exists a kind of global peace keeper to maintain some kind of an order in a chaotic world.

  3. As regarding security council,it is that the might is right, however the social and developmental council is doing a commendable job. We cannot ignore WHO, UNICEF and other similar organisations.

  4. Very good question, I have been working with UN and i am completely clueless about what it does and what is its success rate.

  5. No. Till the UNO has most powerful army under it's command, till the Dollar is replaced with another International currency, till the structure of safety councile is altered to suit the international aspirations, till the internet is brought under one international regime, till the ownership issue of river water and other resources are codified, till the ownership of common resources like oceans are decided, till the charter defining the ownership of unclaimed entities like cosmic objects are prepared, till permenant seat of international justice is settled, the role of UNO can not be said to have fullfilled the world's expectations.

  6. It has achieved what the corrupt governments expected from a corrupt entity as the UN. You know... foment the hatred for America while sucking our money

  7. The United Nations has no power, beyond that of the member nations.

If the member nations put their own ideologies forward, before interests of the world, absolutely nothing will get done or resolved

  8. I look at UNO as a platform & not as an or any authority, then, yes, it is worth having it.

Besides inhibiting another world war which could have erupted (on issues such as gulf crisis, China's invasion over India in '62, break-up of USSR, unon of east & west Germany etc..), UNO has done appreciable work in up-liftment of many south american countries, african countries & asia.

It has helped in spreading technologies.

It has helped remarkably in erradicating many diseases.

It has been a cultural ex-changing station also.

So, to sum up, even if it has failed or been under-rated on some issues, it is worth having.

  9. obsolutely not. it is a dummy organization. but it is an essential waste organization.
