Question:

Has the American belief that we have a God-given right to own a home caused the current mortgage crisis?

I think this whole notion that we "have to own a home to have a worthwhile existence" is both moronic and now it is costing us as a society.

The rich and elite will end up owning all property like in Europe and we will be tenants.

Domestic Manifest Destiny and expansion is over. Let's wake up and smell the coffee.

  1. Everything they do is for to bring down the middle class, they are driving a wedge between the rich and the poor.

  2. uh, you've got your socialist beliefs a little twisted up.

socialist Europe is the dream society that all libs aspire to.

  3. I don't know that it has always been a 'right' to own your own home, but it certainly has always been 'the American Dream'.  I believe that they (mortgage lenders) sort of went overboard on letting loans out to people who were 'risky' on paying and this is what caused the crisis, not that everyone must own a home.  And yes, since houses double in value about every ten years, it is better to own than to throw money away on rent, but you don't have to have a real castle, as most people want.  I don't live in a castle, but I do own my house free and clear---beats the HLL out of owing 600 or more dollars every month in rent.  Domestic Manifest Destiny has been over for a couple of generations or more now, so that doesn't figure much into it.  Happy trails.
