In 2005, Aussies gave England cricketers a lot of stick for getting OBE's and MBE's for winning the Ashes series that year. What I would like to know is has Australia ever been offered similar honours for their admittedly great achievements in dominating cricket in recent years? A good time to have dished out OBE's and MBE's to them would have been when they won the Ashes 5-0 in 2006-07. Perhaps they have been offered but refused. Does anyone know? Clearly, Australia shares the Queen as head of state and is entitled to such honours.

Really, my point is that it is a touch insulting to one's head of state to ridicule the issuing of honours for sporting achievements.

  1. They deserve that

  2. They have won Australian sporting team of the year several times & individual players have been named in the order of Australia awards. We do not have the British awards system now, an don't hand out honours willy-nilly as the Queen did when she gave the 2005 Ashes team OBEs. That was the most ridiculous award ever made I think, in light of the teams performance in the last 20 years. We are more cautious when handing out awards.

  3. No, I dont know of any Australian honours made (or offered) to Australian cricketers in recent years.  The only exceptions I know of is in the case of some retiring cricketers of high stature (such as Steve Waugh) who may have received honours sometime after retiring.

You can checvk it out for yourself at www.itsanhonour.gov.au

    Have fun

  4. When England had won that 2005 ashes series, it was celebrated by the English public so much because it was the first time 20 or so years. It was a great achievement by English cricket to beat the world champions. It was a huge upset so thats why it was celebrated so much. Also you have to keep in mind that England don't win major awards in sports (no offence) so thats why they cheer for anything.

  5. yes

they got the award called "bast cheaters of the criminal race."
