Has the Eight Belles tragedy put you off horse racing?

I'm asking because my cousin-in-law said that he won't watch Big Brown's vie for the Triple Crown because he has been put off horse racing due to the Eight Belles tragedy. I on the other hand, will be watching, hoping that Big Brown does it.

  1. No way.  I've been watching my entire life.  My dad used to be a jockey, back when I was a little tiny kid.

  2. Nope...it's made me watch MORE races just to support the sport and to remain strong in the face of all the bottom-feeding animal activists and low-IQ PETA mouth-breathers.

For every animal they don't eat, I'm going to eat three.

  3. No, the "Eight Belles" tragedy upset me a lot,but I have been a fan for a very long time and I will keep watching.I have seen this happen and it upsets me every time.Think of "Barbaro",Pine Island","George Washington" and many more.It breaks my heart, but I love the sport.

  4. I've been put off of horse racing since the 1990 Breeders Cup when Go For Wand went down in front of the grandstand.

  5. No way, athletes have injuries all the time and these horses are elite athletes.

I love (and will always love) horse racing!

I actually wrote this link after the tragedy.. I worked in the horse industry for many years...

watching it on TV wont change anything.. the only way change will occur is if the betting public stop wagering money...

read the link to understand more about how/why it happend.. and how some horse races are not nearly as risky to the horses.. support them instead...

  7. Horses get injured all the time, most of the times career ending ones. You have to put them down because if they injured both hind legs (as in Eight Belles case) they won't eat and they'll eventually die of that. So not at all.

  8. No, these things happen all the time; this one was just way more highly publicized than normal.

  9. no...its a tragical incident but thats life! happens everyday and thats why we need to enjoy each moment as they happen...life is short enough with out it being speeding up!

  10. Nope. I love the sport too much. Yes, it was a tragedy, but we have to understand that accidents happen. If we weren't able to cure broken legs in humans, would people protest track, or any other sport where the legs could get injured? Things happen, and i'm not going to stop watching the sport no matter what.

If you watched the Preakness Stakes(the show before it), they had a big conversation on how they are going to try and make the sport more safe.

  11. no but i wish the best for big brown to win , its was sad but thats part of the game , we have to hope this alerts traniers and vets to be more awhere

  12. NOPE

  13. No. What people see is a tragic breakdown on National TV. I have never seen a horse break down in the gallop out. Since it was on national TV, it gives the average person the idea that horses break down in every race. That is not the case. In fact, the number of breakdowns in the total number of races is very low. It is very sad that this happened, and I was equally as crushed as anyone.

  14. that is the last thing i will do,so go ahead watch the cartoon channel.
