Has the USPS thought about changing fuel type for all its fleet?

Postal Rates rise basically because Oil (petroleum) prices rise. The USPS should perhaps change the consumption type from petroleum (in case they use that. i do not know what they use) to other alternatives like: biodiesel, ethanol, butanol, natural gas, vegetable oil, biomass, and even chemically stored electricity (batteries and fuel cells).

i am not saying they have to change the whole fleet. engines can be adapted to be able to move with green technology.

and perhaps with that change prices drop to 37c ?????

FedEx uses low emission vehicles and alternate fuel trucks.

Maybe it would be better to end the USPS monopoly on First Class mail so we could ship with the company the has the least impact on the environment.

You missed out the most important fuel

Hydrogen with 0 yes Zero emmisions

and can be produced at your own home

The USPS has always been at the forefront of energy savings and the commitment to alternative fuel vehicles is part of that.  We have several natural gas powered vehicles sitting in our office's lot right now and have had several other types of test vehicles over the years.

I haven't heard about them using alternate fuels but I do know that use 100% recycled oils in all fleet vehicle, as well as, shipping out all their used oils for recycling.

all are less efficient

some require more maintenance

this means even HIGHER rates.
