Has the irs hotline ever lied about the rebate check,meaning did anyone get info saying?

they were gettin x amount on x date then didnt get on or even resonably a few days later. would hotline say your refund is being offset if it was or would it say your getting x on x date , the tell you later that it was intercepted,has this happened to anyone?

  1. If you are using the automated system its not set up to tell you if your refund is being offset.  You would need a person to tell you that.  If your refund is being offset, you are still getting the refund, the irs isn't keeping it, it is just being paid to another agency to pay your debt.  

    If your refund has been offset you will get a notice from Financial Management Services

The hotline won't tell you--they will tell you there is an issue with it and to call another number.  That number will ask you if you owe money ect to the Federal Government.  They won't tell you how much they are taking.  The IRS number will give you a date, but if you owe money it won't come on that date. You have to call the other number.  If you're getting a check it will come by the schedule for the last 2 numbers of your SS.

  3. If your stimulus check is being offset for something you owe, the website (and the letter you get) would still show the total amount of your rebate, then you'll get an additional letter saying how much was taken and why.

  4. The IRS Hotline doesn't "lie".
