Question:

Has the judging in the Olympics been unfair?

I noticed in the women's gymnastics they have given higher scores to some gymnasts with significantly more errors in their routine. I noticed also that with the US gymnasts there were judges that had almost no professional judging experience in judging top rated gymnasts or even judging on this level.

I am not bitter or angry about anything this is just a legit question as the judging in the Olympics, especially in gymnastics, has been criticized heavily.

  1. jason, you may not be bitter or angry- but i am. to answer your question: no, the judging has not been fair. if you have been following all of US women's gymnastics than you know weird things have been happening... ie Alicia Sacramone's issue where she was supposed to be the bronze medalist and not the 10 y/o Chinese chick, or when Nastia was tied with the other 10 y/o and got silver even though everyone says her execution was better, or the biggest issue of the Chinese girls ages. no doubt during team finals we screwed up because of nerves- but if the Chinese girls were investigated on their proper ages, I wouldn't be so pissed off that: even if we did s***w up- we could have gotten gold because our girls are legally all 16+

i am very proud of our americans; but, i am still very bitter for them.

unlike them, i know when too be pissed off because of a wrongdoing.

  2. I think boxing is much worse than gymnastics in the judging.  I can't tell you how many matches I've watched and ended up being dumbfounded as to how the victor ended up "winning".  There was a fight between a boxer from Ecuador and China and the Ecuadoran  fighter beat the absolute snot of the Chinese guy but ended up losing by more than 10 points.  Fixed.  Pure and simple.

  3. Maybe but there are people that checks the judges score so the judges can't really give too much of a point to someone they like.

  4. yeah it's unfair. it's unfair that fei cheng scored higher then nastia. even though fei cheng fell on her kness she got a higher score then nastia

  5. when it comes to judged events, human error or favoritism is unavoidable, fairness is highly subjective

people usually only read or see what reinforce their own beliefs

  6. The only people who have been criticizing are the Americans. They are very good at whining and crying after a loss. I suggest the IOC should add the sport of Whining to the 2012 olympics so the Americans can win more gold.

  7. somewhat but one reason is because some gymnasts have higher start values like a chinesse girl could have a 7.0 start score and a usa girl could have a 6.7 and the chinesse girl could mess up  more because she started with a higher score.

  8. I agree. The judging for the women's gymnastics has been somewhat unfair. For instance, one of the chinese gymnast got a higher score than one of the the US gymnasts, even though she made many more mistakes. It didn't seem fair to me.

  9. Yeh its getting harsh on the USA women gymnastic especially for liukin.

The commentators have been surprise alot cause China are getting really high score when they did moves that they suppose to get some points deductions.

  10. why are u saying juding in the olympics u t**d. there has been no complaining except for women's gymnastics

  11. obviously the NBC commentators would say that it has been unfair. They are american, so when americans don't win, then they complain. But you need to also to remember to look at the difficulty scores, like that cheng fei girl did fall, so she did get the 0.8 deduction, but her start scores were both 6.5 for the 2 vaults. But Alicia sacramone's start score was 6.3 and a 5.8 because her difficulty was not as high. And she did a double hop.

I think the judging is fair.
