Has the military ever produced any sucessful professional boxers?

i know the military has boxing are their any famous pros who got their start boxing in the military

Yeah they have and it looks like you've gotten some good answers here on who exactly some of the were and are. Not a big boxing fan myself, it's become too much of political BS and Don King is dragging the sport down the drain and killing it.

I would question how many of the guys people have listed out here got their start in the military, I'd say more likely that they had boxed before hand and then continued it in the military, but I don't know for sure.

Rocky Marciano served in the Army.

Ken Norton was a Marine.

Like the young jackass Marine I was, I punched a door in anger and broke my hand.  The doctor who looked at it said he saw the same fracture (boxer's fracture) on Leon Spinks when Spinks was in the Marines..  Needless to say, I am not, nor will I ever be a professional boxer. Spinks, however, was a gold medalist and world champ.

Ray Mercer and Andrew Maynard were in the olympics in1988. Also Mike Weaver, Ken Norton and Leon Spinks were all marines. Oh Maynard and Mercer were Army.
