The Snip:

JEDDAH: Police arrested a woman in her twenties while driving her family’s car in the Aziziah district, a security source said Thursday.

The source said that police took the woman to the police station where she was released after her parents paid bail.

She will have to be brought to the station for further investigations, according to police spokesman Col. Misfar Al-Joaed. “Police stopped the woman after noticing her driving in the Aziziah district and took her for questioning,” he told Al-Madinah newspaper.

My opinion:

This is the third such driving incident in about a month. I've yet to read what law has been broken since the Kingdom has no direct written legal code or precedent for the situation. The CPVPV only quotes "society's rules" on mingling when they explain why this is not permitted.

  1. They get arrested just for driving? That is more than a little bit sad.

  2. I think many Saudi women could pull off driving.   All they need to do is wear a thobe and ghutra.  Nobody will pay attention to them.

More Saudi women should try on thobe and ghutra and drive around town.

  3. God!! like saudi arabia has nothing to discuss, brag about or even fix and get done except that stupid thing about women driving...give it a rest people it's no big deal....not even to alot of saudi women (my self included).

women in saudi drive in villages and small towns. in cities (where all the feminists are raising h**l about this) they do drive at certain areas and times...for decades, it's not a new thing...

the thing is, for some reason beyound my comprehension, the whole world is focusing on this tiny issue and "solving it" as if letting women drive in saudi is the ultimate achievemnt in womens rights around the globe!!!

the fact that one or two ribelious teenagers or attention craving young saudi females are "acting out" in isolated unplanned and stupidly uncalculated events that put them (not to mention others on the road already at high risk ) in dangerous situations (in addition to embaracing her family and that poor father of hers who'll have to explain this stupid selfish act over and over) doesn't make them "brave" or "bold" or "fighting for a cause" or any other terminology a stubborn "feminist" might use and scatter all over papers and news broadcasts...blowing the whole thing out of proportions and accusing authorities if treating this "free warrior spirit" like a criminal....

the police held her in custody and had her father come and pick her up for her d**n sake...

  4. Oh women have been sneaking around driving for years now.. its not new.. just that the media is now publishing the reports more openly...

  5. she was just unlucky to be caught

a lot of girls take it as an adventure and sneak and drive since many years

  6. You now when i read this girl/woman's answere i feel discus ted you Saudi women dont deserve the Europeans/Americans help in anything  neither less World rights division, digesting they are trying to get you to see the 21 century and you are calling them stupid,i dont now the problem is IQ
