Question:

Has the recent cold winter really changed anything?

There have been quite a few questions over the last month about the cold winter, stating it is the end of global warming. Ignoring or dismissing the fact that much of the southern hemisphere had above average temperatures through their summer. Has there been a set back to Arctic melting. The link below compares 4-May 1998 (the warmest year on record) and 4-May 2008 (two days ago) the pink (sea ice) areas to the right in 2007 image are smaller even after a cold winter.

  1. Nope.

Just one below average winter, which doesn't mean a thing.  It happened in 1982, 1991-1992, 1999-2000.  EVERY TIME global warming came back stronger than ever.  Proof.

As long as we keep making greenhouse gases in enormous amounts, global warming will dominate in the long run.  It's simple physics.

  2. Yes. I have been unable to wear my mini skirts here lately....

    Cold weather is not pleasant!!

  3. I want to see Amelia in her mini skirt and wet t-shirt, so, yes it's a catastrophy!

  4. Possible, the earth is going to warm or cool all the time.  I have seen some global warming skeptics predict a cooling due to the solar cycle over the next few years.

The main thing is it another couple of years and cooler weather patterns may bring into question the Global Warming Models.  We need some drastic warming to get them back on track, but you can not say until about 10 years of data.

  5. wow nice site antarctic, thanks.
